Brigid
In Irish mythology (a subset of Gaelic myth, within Celtic myth) Brigid was the daughter of the Dagda, who existed as a father figure and protector of the Tuatha Dé Danann, a group of people said to have been the fifth to settle Ireland.
She was a woman of poetry, and so was devoutly venerated by poets and bards. She was also a woman of healing, and a woman of smith’s work. She is credited with inventing the whistle, “for calling one to another through the night” (from Augusta Gregory’s English translation of Irish myth, Gods and Fighting Men). One side of her face was ugly, but the other “very comely.”
She is the goddess of all things of high dimensions, (like high-rising flames, highlands, hill-forts and upland areas) and associated with wisdom, eloquence, craftsmanship, druidic knowledge, and skill in warfare. Her continental counterparts were the Roman Minerva and Greek Athena.
